Major's Youth Leadership Council

One of BDU's very own scholars, Adriyanna Staten was selected this summer as one of 25 students from Indianapolis high schools to serve on the Major's Youth Leadership Council! She along with the other 24 students will meet with Mayor Joe Hogsett several times this year to provide youth voice on community issues and opportunities. We are very proud of you Adriyanna!

BDU had an awesome visit with our Rolls Royce Volunteers this past week incorporating them in a special Basement Dwellers Club gaming session with board and card games and having them share their college and career pathway to their current positions in the Rolls Royce business and engineer's office with our students! We also had great conversations regarding personal finance, college loans, and starting salary comparisons of those with or without college degrees with many of our sophomores as the volunteers worked with them on a career interest project in their advisory classes. What an amazing opportunity!

International Club - Night Nation Cancer Run

Our International Club will be representing the LAP Students at the LAP Family Night this evening interacting with LAP families and volunteering their face painting skills for the young children! Sponsor EJ Jzar was very excited to volunteer to create a chapter of the first BDU Key Club through Kwiannis International which partners perfectly with her current BDU International Club which is heavily engaged in service learning! Speaking of which, students in the International Club have already been on fire participating in all of their annual walks and events to sponsor many worthwhile causes!

Here International Club volunteers at Night Nation Cancer Run!

BDU has also had some amazing college visits which continue to reflect BDU alumni on the panels and working in student orientation providing tours to prospective students, what an awesome connection!

Here is an ISU student panel with two of our BDU Alumni!

BDU staffers Al Coleman and Crista Carlino had an awesome time at the Lucas Oil Raceway Park learning about STEM Careers last week at the track!

Senior's College Fair

All of our BDU Class of 2018 Seniors attended the IACAC College Fair at the Convention Center! The new electronic system of college interest for admission and scholarship interviews was awesome! What a great opportunity to ramp up our college applications! A big thank you to Jennifer Kahn for coordinating this opportunity as well as all of our college visits this year.

Our GEMS (Girls Empower the Movement) Girls had a great time with their first fundraising bake sale! Their focus was fair food with delicious deep fried oreos and funnel cakes that were a hit with all the students and even some of the parents! A big thank you to GEMS Sponsor extraordinaire Candice Woods for working so hard to make sure our girls are successful at BDU!

Our IT Nerd Herd members had another great authentic opportunity for supporting our students! IT Staff came over and trained our IT Majors how to install our new snap on chromebook cases which they then installed on all sophomore devices! Look at these new sharp cases with the custom color and log! They love them! A big thank you to sponsor Al Coleman for coordinating this opportunity!
