Abstract Painting

During our exploration of line and shape, students learned about abstract art by looking at paintings by artists like Vasily Kandinsky and Franz Kline. We noticed that abstract art does not try to represent real life, but focuses on shapes, lines and colors, and can be interpreted in different ways. Students created their own abstract artwork, starting with black shapes and lines and then adding the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) with paint.

Texture Print

During our exploration of texture, students experimented with printing or stamping with a variety of different materials, including sponges, bubble wrap, and bottle tops. We printed with different colors and thought about composition, as well as overlapping and layering our prints.

Self Portrait Assemblages

During our exploration of texture, students created self portrait assemblages demonstrating our favorite physical activities. We thought about what our body looks like when we are in motion. We used cardboard, paper, fabric, yarn and a variety of textured materials.
