Students used a variety of different lines to create a landscape, considering the foreground, middle ground and background.

Students learned about and looked at the work of French artist Henri Matisse, specifically the cut-outs that he created later in his life, and created our own collage artworks using geometric and organic shapes.

Students learned about and looked at examples of Pointillism, a technique of painting using small, distinct dots of color to form an image. Students used markers to create their own drawings in this style.

Students learned about and looked at the work of African American artist Romare Bearden, specifically his mixed media collage work The Block (1978). Students created their own cityscape collages inspired by Bearden's work.

Students learned about and looked at the work of Brazilian artist Romero Britto and created their own designs inspired by Britto's colorful style and use of pattern.

Students learned about African American author and illustrator Vanessa Brantley Newton and created their own self portraits inspired by her illustrations. Students included objects and symbols coming out of their heads that reflect their personalities, identities and interests.

Students learned about and discussed the work of Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, specifically her installations and use of polka dots. Students painted polka dots inspired by Kusama's work and transformed them into pop-ups with their self portrait included to represent themselves in a 3D "installation."

Students created “silly” sandwich drawings, filling them with a variety of different and unique ingredients.
