Radial Symmetry Name Design

During our exploration of shape and color, students learned about radial symmetry, which is symmetry around a central point. They created designs to show this concept by repeating their name. Students used colored pencils, blending analogous colors (3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel) together to demonstrate gradation, or a gradual transition from one color to the next. Can you find the student’s name in their design?

One Point Landscape Drawing

During our exploration of line, shape and space, students learned about the concept of one point perspective and created a landscape that demonstrates one point perspective, using orthogonal lines that meet at the vanishing point to show depth. Students added color using colored pencils.

Watercolor Landscape Painting

During our exploration of color and texture, students explored a variety of different watercolor painting techniques. They created landscapes that utilize these techniques, including wet-on-wet, salt, and resist.

Pop Art Inspired Prints

During our exploration of color and texture, students looked at and discussed the prints of artist Andy Warhol, who was part of the Pop Art movement in the 1960’s. Inspired by popular culture today, students drew a design onto styrofoam, using a stylus, to make their printing plate. They printed multiple copies of this plate, rolling out ink with a brayer. They used a variety of colors of ink -- even some multicolored rainbow roll prints. They selected their 3 best prints to mount, title and sign.
