Dear Parents,
We made it through our second week of remote learning. We are so thankful for all of your efforts.
Our tip for this week is: Get to Know Your Kids as students.
Although you have spent a lot of time with your children, you are going to have to do what teachers do at the beginning of each school year. You are going to have to get to know your kids as students. Justin Reich, an educational researcher from MIT, says that online learning isn't for everyone and may be really difficult for students who aren't good at self-regulating.
Some students are motivated and thrive on working independently with very little direction. On the other hand, you may have a child who may need a little extra help. Still others will need a lot of coaching and helping to complete what you may think as simple assignments. Therefore, you will need to identify what type of student your child is and support them in their learning. For example: your child may do better working in groups. A good option for a group learner is a Google Hangout study session with a classmate.
Remember, you are not in this alone. Keep in constant communication with your child's teacher. Let them know what you are struggling with and they can offer additional ideas. We are in this together.
