Through collaboration and personal reflection, our young musicians focus on the concepts of analysis, growth, expression, and community participation. Our music courses promote creativity, higher order thinking, and encourage students to take an active role in their daily music consumption.
Waynesboro Area School District and the greater Waynesboro area have been designated as a NAMM "Best Community for Music Education" (awarded 2014-2017, 2019-2020, 2024-2025). Thanks for your continued support of music in our schools!
Our high school band members have been exploring practical leadership training to aid them in sectional rehearsals and organizational tasks through the marching band season. The inaugural CAPS Leadership Clinic, held in May 2024, included appointed student leaders from our band, the WASHS cheerleaders, and the CASHS Trojan Marching Band. The program continues to grow and shift to meet the needs of our students and has proven to be a valuable start a conversation about practical leadership within a large organization.
CAPS 3.0 is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The student leadership application process has been revised and improved to reflect the terminology and values of our CAPS program.
4th grade learners are invited to complete in-person instrument testing with their building band director. We hold district-wide informational meetings about instrument selection and the Menchey Music rental program in April and August. Click to see more about our PROCESS.
The WASHS Marching Band invited all 8th grade instrumentalists to join in the stands at home varsity football games (Fall 2024 and 2025). The practice has been a fun introduction to the idea of marching band for our younger musicians and we are optimistic that they can now approach high school band from a place of comfort and understanding of program expectations.
