Nearpod is a student engagement platform that can be used to amazing effect in the classroom by creating engaging, interactive lessons that are perfect for the in-class, flipped or remote classroom. The concept is simple. A teacher can create presentations that can contain Quiz's, Polls, Videos, Images, Drawing-Boards, Virtual Tours, Web Content, etc. Students can access the lessons live, while teacher is on a Meet or Zoom, or asynchronously. Access thousands of lessons in the library, or upload your own Google Slides and Powerpoints and add activities.

Use Nearpod to Create Dynamic, Interactive Lessons that Encourage Collaboration, Creation and Communication

Nearpod Overview

Nearpod in the Classroom

One of my favorite apps to enhance engagement, deepen learning and interaction is called Nearpod. I am happy to say that we have just added Nearpod to the Winnacunnet High School digital toolbox for all teachers and staff!! Nearpod is an application tool that takes your presentations to a whole new level. Teachers can take already existing Google Slideshows, PowerPoints or PDFs and upload them to the Nearpod site to create enriched multimedia presentations with interactive features that make for a much more dynamic experience for students with real-time feedback and assessments.

Some of the features include adding quizzes, drawing tools, and video to the lesson. Teachers can then share the content with the students and control the activity with the Nearpod app so all students are accessing the lesson on their Chromebooks!

Students have the capability to receive the content from the teacher on their device for a great interactive lesson, which can be run in Live or Student Mode.

Using Nearpod in the Remote Classroom

What are some of the Educational Benefits of Nearpod?

  • Accessibility. Nearpod works on multiple devices but is perfect for a 1:1 environment and is easy to access on our Chromebooks.

  • Teachers have control of the lesson on the device. Before the lesson, the teacher provides a code for students to join the session. Once joined, the students submit their names which allows the teacher to see on the teacher device the names of the students that have joined. When all students have joined, the teacher can share the first slide of the presentation and begin the lesson. Students are only allowed to see the slide the teacher shares which ensures students are on task.

  • Integration with Google Slides, Powerpoint, pdfs. It is super easy to upload existing presentation into the Nearpod environment to add the interactive features.

  • The large library of Nearpod lessons from well-reputed educational publishers and teachers around the world.
