Google Apps For Education

What are Google Apps for Education?

Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is is a suite of free, web-based programs that includes email, document creation, shared calendars, and collaboration tools, hosted by Google and managed by Winnacunnet High School. GAFE will provide the ability for WHS students, faculty and staff to communicate, store files and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from school, work, home, or any place with an internet connection all within a secure “WHS Bubble” online environment.

What can WHS students do with Google Apps?

Students will have easy access to real-time document, spreadsheet, and presentation creation tools within their Google Drive. Students will also have additional storage for other files they may need to use between home and school. Each student is provided with unlimited storage on their Google Drive.

We recommend that students save their documents to Google Drive because they are then accessible to them on any other device (besides their school Chromebook) that has access to internet. Drive is also completely compatible with Google Classroom, which is the app that teachers most often use to communicate and deliver curriculum content to students, as well as receive and comment on assignments from students. s.

There are a multitude of apps (call them programs if you prefer) within the Google Apps for Education offering that you can use to create classroom content and complete assignments. The following list is just a handful of the available choices.

  • Gmail - email classmates and teachers

  • Calendar - share and schedule events with your teacher (like homework and projects)

  • Maps - Study the world, or just your street, and get directions

  • Forms - web based forms for data collection

  • Sites - create your own web page

  • YouTube - create and watch videos

  • Blogger - create your own blog

  • Drawings - create drawings and illustrations

  • Slides - create presentations (similar to MS Powerpoint)

  • Sheets - create spreadsheets (similar to MS Excel)

  • Docs - create text based documents (similar to MS Word)
