With their project, Shearing the solution to water pollution Nicola & Jessica Stanton won a number of prestigious awards.
This included the Year 11 - 13 Scientific Investigation section of the WITT Taranaki Science & Technology Fair. They also won the WITT Best in Fair trophy and prize. The winning didn't stop there, they also gained 5 special prizes including the Terry Stowers award for Fair Diligence which was thoroughly deserved by Nicola with her continued efforts in the Fair over numerous years.
The kaupapa of their mahi was about utilising sheep's wool as water filters to reduce oil & fat content that goes down our kitchen drains. The project was strongly related to concepts of sustainability and kaitiakitanga, as well as having relevance to our local agriculture industries.
