In this project, we need to choose one SDG and created a physical collage using elements from magazine. For this project, we selected SDG 16 that is Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions as my our topic for our collage. The first plan is to put war element on the background and put a dove that symbol peace at the middle to make a comparison, to empathize the peace dove. But the actual situation are better different from what we thought. We can't found this type of picture but we change the plan next, we want to provide some positive when audience see our collage. We need to improve by make a draft first and find all the material that we need. The final piece felt disorganized, with mismatched image and unclear message about how the visuals connect to our SDG.
This assignment tasked us to redesigning a $1000 currency note to center underrepresented Taiwanese Indigenous historical figures, a critical local social justice issue. We chose Mona Rudao, an Indigenous leader of the Wushe Incident who fought against colonial injustice and for the rights of his community. We conducted deep research on his life, Indigenous tribal symbolism, and traditional cultural art to inform the design: We have included mountain landscapes, the sun , and patterns from Taiwan’s Indigenous tribes. We first thing about the historical accuracy and use a element that fit he to decorate the currency.
In this project, we need to make a mood board that was created to support or base on our PBL final project. Our topic of our final project is about injustice and misunderstood of indigenous people. For our first mood board we only include generic picture and art of indigenous people with no focus on a single tribe, whichsomehow diluted the project social justice. After our first pitch, and the feedback that classmate and teacher gives, we put the focus on Amis tribe only. For our second mood board we find many picture that you can tell it's Amis when first sight of this mood board. We choose the picture of their traitional clothing, their festivals. We want to show their cultural element and their contribution in the history
This pitch needs us to introduce our team's PBL social justice and explain the issue. We also need to give out some idea about a physical object that we can give out in the donation. Our first plan is to make cultural merchandise to support the Amis advocacy. In our first pitch, we don't have a focus on only one tribe. After the feedback, we have changed a lot.
We have base on the feedback from our classmate and teacher to create a polished final pitch. We have more focus on Amis tribe, we have change the pattern and the decoration of ppt to more connect to amis tribe. And also do more on presentation skill. The final pitch was focused, professional, culturally responsive, challenge stereotypes, and advance local social justice.
For our logo design, we first doing 50 thumbsnail as a class. Then we need to choose 3 sketch from these 50, and do more detail on it.And then we vote for the logo that best fit for our topic in our group.Final we have our logo that have colors, and proportions to ensure cultural respect and visual clarity. We are using pattern from Amis tribe and connect to our previce name(Voice of Amis).
In this project, we need to give 3 rough logo, get the colours, font of magazine. And also the element that from the mood board. I have learned about the color not just the visual, it also the give us the meaning and the vibe.In hardest place is to design the logo, we have different opinion in the group, so it hard to unify the logo is.
For the first seven week, I need to improve from the group work with my teammate.I agreed that everyone is different, so there will be have different opinion in the group, this is the part that was hard. For seven week, I'm a little bit lack of communicate with my teammate, and also we need to unify and collaborate to one final opinion that will make our group better. There have many different feedback for our project pitch version one, for example our ppt is lack of Amis culture, we're not prepare enough, we make up what indigenous people was like.In pitch 2 we have changed a lot, from we put more Amis pattern and cultural picture in it. And we get more research on the real history and the real culture of Amis tribeThis PBL project have a lot of connection with PBL B, both of them is social justice. In PBL B, we have learned a lot about indigenous people's culture, we even go to the museum to see their traditional object and their culture. In PBL b, there are group that have choose indigenous people for their final exhibition project. It dip down the base of the project for this semester.I also have grown a lot, I have learned about many rules, and leazned to use different type of ways to learn, and also the way of what are think is improved.
For our group, we are focused on the injustice and misunderstanding of indigenous people (especially the Amis tribe). We choose Amis tribe to make it more detail and more focus on one tribe to write.
In modern times there have been many stereotypes about it; all of this is because people now don't know all the sources/knowledge about indigenous culture. They think indigenous people are like this in general, so indigenous people should be like this. Or there are also people from different tribes messed together; one of the tribes is different from the other tribe. It is also caused by a lack of knowledge of indigenous people.
At the start of the semester, I felt nervous about graphic design. I thought it was just about making things “look good,” and I worried I was not naturally creative. I did not understand the process behind strong design.Over the seven weeks, we have learned about different type of drawing, like element of art and principle of design. These drawing practice and learning help me a lot in our logo design for our final project. The most important thing I learned is that good design requires planning, drafting, and feedback. I used to jump into creating without structure, but now I know that planning first makes the final work stronger, more focused, and more respectful to the people we are representing.I have growth to be more careful person
This week, we are doing the final logo of our group. This logo design is from my teammate; he plays the main role in design. This design makes it easy for people to understand our topic. This logo uses contrast, emphasis, and also balance from the principle of design. The two heads mean different things: the black one means we still have some bias and misunderstanding about others, and the white one means the people that have known more get beyond the first impressions. For this final logo, we have changed it a lot; we have changed different drafts. Through the experience, our teammate and I somehow have some opinions on the draft that our role of design has, but we also give him some ideas there to go for the design. For example, some of the drafts are not very clear about what information this logo wants to share. But through the feedback from teammates, teachers, and other peers in our school, we got our final logo.
In week 9, we need to start to put our research and also design our layout of our first magazine draft. For this draft, it's very rough and looks like a plan, and there have many problem inside. In this draft, I'm working on having the research and writing for the content, and the other teammate is working on the design of the tangible and also putting the layout in our draft 1.
In week 10, we start to put the layout plan from paper into Canva. And also, based on the feedback that teachers give us, change the layout to make it easier for people to understand and change the content by changing the error in the content. We also add more research and information in our magazine draft 2.
In this week, we are making our magazine draft 3. This week, we put all the things in Canva. There also is feedback from the teacher for the design and for the content. We have found many pictures, colors, and different material in our magazine. But some of our pictures do not actually fit with our magazine. We put all the things in one magazine; it makes the whole magazine more visual than the last draft.
This week, we have gotten the feedback from our classmate and teacher. They said the colors are making some text not clear, and also the pictures are not clear, and they don't know why we are choosing the pictures. So this week, we are still working on improving our magazine. We have changed the layout to make the magazine more clear and also put the pictures that are more connected to our magazine text.
This week, we are doing our final magazine; we have changed a lot for the week of the magazine. We have change the color, the picture, adding the credit, more research on our magazine content, page number, etc. Even in the last second, we are changing for our final magazine; I even stay after school to fix the magazine. In the final, we make sure that our magazine content is clear and the size of the font is all the same.
In these 2 weeks, we are doing many things but are more chill than the final magazine week. And we prepared for our final exhibition by creating tangible products and practicing our presentation. We designed themed t-shirts and set up a mock exhibition booth to collect feedback, and we need to deliver a 5-minute project pitch for our teachers explaining our project and our process and many connections between them. I have helped to get the screen that we need to print the shirt and also helped our group to print the shirt.
This semester’s PBL magazine project helped me grow a lot as a writer and team member. I was responsible for the magazine’s written content. At first, I thought writing just meant recording facts clearly. But my teammates told me my first draft was too vague. I revised it overnight, adding specific examples, splitting long paragraphs, and adding subheadings. This reminded me of my science lab report, where I also failed to explain the meaning of my results. I now know good writing requires revision and thinking from readers’ perspectives. The biggest change is I now listen carefully to feedback instead of being defensive. My main weakness is slow writing speed. I plan to practice making quick 10-minute outlines before writing to improve efficiency.
I used to think design was just about looking good. Over the semester I learned planning, drafting and feedback are critical. Principles like contrast and emphasis helped our logo: two overlapping heads show bias vs. understanding. I am most proud of our final logo, which clearly communicates our "perception ≠ reality" message while honoring Amis heritage.
Our group studied injustice and misunderstanding faced by Taiwan’s marginalized groups. I was most surprised that everyday stereotypes harm more than historical wrongs. I once thought these issues were mostly in the past and that marginalized communities were homogeneous. Today people still lump diverse groups together and reduce them to narrow stereotypes. This taught me social justice starts with listening to individual stories and challenging our own biases.
