Passion Project Ideas
計劃
Choose a small local cause, club, or community initiative (e.g.a neighbourhood clean‑up group, a small NGO, a youth mental health project)
Design a full visual identity with logo, colour palette, typography, basic brand guidelines, plus 3–5 applied items (e.g. poster, social media template, tote bag, sticker)
Write a 5–8 page case study including brief, research, iterations, final designs, and how the client used them; include before/after examples if possible
🏫 Why it’s good for uni: Shows you can solve real design problems, work with a “client”, and think systematically about branding
Create a self‑directed series of 20–30 illustrated “icons” that represent Hong Kong life (e.g., tram, estate blocks, dai pai dong, MTR map)
For each icon, combine illustration with simple typography or micro‑copy (a short caption, fact, or personal memory)
Publish as an Instagram series, a mini zine, or a simple website
Write a short artist statement about your concept, style choices, and what you learned about visual communication
🏫 Why it’s good for uni: Demonstrates consistent personal style, idea generation, and ability to build a coherent visual project over time
Pick a local issue you care about (e.g.teen mental health, housing affordability, public transport usage)
Gather data from official sources ( Government reports/news investigations) and turn into 3–5 high‑quality infographics
Focus on clear hierarchy, data visualisation, and storytelling
Share online and with relevant student groups or NGOs, and include a 3–5 page reflection on your design decisions and what you learned.
🏫 Why it’s good for uni: Shows you can handle information design, think critically about data, and communicate complex ideas visually
