Multilingualism workshop in the ASP-UNESCO Network
International gestures have proven to be a useful teaching tool for promoting multilingualism in schools of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, ASP-UNESCO. The Galician schools that belong to this international network hold a meeting every two years. More than a hundred primary, secondary and even upper students gather for several days to exchange experiences.
IES Pedra da Agua presented different workshops in these Meetings, where the common concept is that high school students act as teachers of their peers to help them learn what they have prepared. In the last two meetings (2010 and 2012), the IES Pedra da Agua workshop offered participants an approach to a language of their choice, using international gestures as a teaching tool. The results are presented to the entire school community (teachers, students and their families) at the end of the Meeting.
The following video shows the presentation made at the 2012 meeting, where students (mainly from primary schools) were able to greet and present themselves in four different languages (German, Chinese, Swahili or modern Greek), as well as show some slogans. the theme of the encounter (the importance of education in our global world), finally singing an African song in Swahili.
The following list shows the successive steps that led to this performance in all four languages.
