“My name is Ahmad Kheir from El Minieh, North Lebanon. I was placed in Falls Village, CT during the years 2015-2016 and I am currently studying Bioengineering at KIT in Karlsruhe, Germany. When I was the North Coordinator (2016), I was working on a project that aims to provide the newbies with the basic information they need in order to continue the baccalaureate program without any issues. Unfortunately, this project wasn't implemented because we were missing two factors: The first was a physical classroom and the second factor was that we didn't have enough Alumni to teach or supervise. Fortunately, now that we have the YES mentorship program, I thought that if the lectures were posted online and the students learned the information self-paced then such a project can finally be implemented. So, we created a platform for newbies on Google classroom which is divided into sections depending on their interests. And this project could continue to benefit our newbies for the years to come.”
Ahmad is working along with Maroun Mezher (YES 2017-2018) to tackle the different sections of the baccalaureate program. This project will be the first baby of the Mentorship Program which hopefully will continuously benefit our alumni. Best of luck to Ahmad and Maroun! To more successful stories!
"I joined the Mentorbac team because of my love for math and volunteer work. Having been in SE last year myself, I had a lot of group studies with my peers especially before the official exams where they would come over and I would pull out a whiteboard and start solving math or econ problems. I found it really fun and inspiring to do that as I started to get a new and deeper perspective into the vast world of mathematics. This love for math lead me into majoring in it, and I love every part of it (minus double integrals and partial derivatives) and my education at Hamilton College made me love it even more. One of the key things I learned while writing math proofs is typing math in LateX (the big boys math language). Ever since then, I've been trying to get every opportunity I can to write math with it. From the moment I saw Ahmad Kheir's announcement, I was filled with excitement to do two of the things I love the most at the same time: writing a math review with LateX as a volunteer project for newbies, and thus far I have enjoyed every single part of it. Not only did I help the newbies solidify their mathematical knowledge heading into grade 12, but I also got another chance to practice writing math in LateX."
