Place in History - The man known as Virus has had a career like few others. Luchadors tend to be smaller than their counterparts to the North and while they utilize weight classes, height can still hold back talent. Bird Boy was not even five and half feet tall when he started in UWA. Antonio Pena had pushed for EMLL to start a mini-estrellas division, after years of it being an occasional novelty act. The division relied heavily on mini versions of the top stars, some had dwarfism and some did not. Rebranded as Piratita Morgan and later Damiancito El Guerrero, the EMLL mini-estrellas division became a hot act in the undercards. In a strange turn of events, EMLL held a tournament to allow one of the mini-estrellas to graduate from the division. Damiancito, the reigning champion, won and soon transformed into Virus. By this point, Virus was an accomplished ring general and he mixed well with smaller technicos like El Oriental and Ricky Marvin. He steadily improved and became a tremendous asset to CMLL. Virus had the ability to direct traffic in trios matches, he was perfect for showcase lightning matches with young high flyers and his maestro matwork is top-notch. For all of his strengths, Virus’s size and even his look to an extent have held him back. While he has some similarities to someone like El Satanico or El Signo in terms of his build and ring generalship, Virus has never been a top program or top rudo stable like either of them. His mullet, his outfits, his face paint and even his AC/DC theme song make him seem dated and even second-rate at times. Regardless, Virus is arguably the best luchador of the new millennium with a consistency to his work that has allowed him to move into a prominent role of effectively replacing Satanico as both CMLL’s Mexico City trainer and as the head of his old Los Infernales group.
