Place in History - The exodus of talent from AAA in the late 1990s forced Antonio Pena to bring in a variety of youngsters and create a diversity of characters in the hopes that some would catch on. One of them was a CMLL castoff, known as Ultimatum, who was completely reinvented himself. He opted out of a traditional mask for a half-mask inspired by Hannibal Lector and took the name “Electro Shock” to allude to the controversial therapy to control the mental ill. He continued to refine his character and through constantly altering aspects of the Electro Shock package he managed to become one of the key rudos in AAA for twenty years. Electro Shock was brought into Cibernetico’s Los Vipers group and when they split, he went with Abismo Negro’s faction. The company underwent significant highs and lows with Electro Shock finding himself in angles involving his younger brother Charly Manson, his wife Lady Apache and friend Chessman. He, like much of the upper tier of AAA talent, had many strengths and yet was never quite the top focal star. The company got behind him around 2009 as he won the annual Rey de Reyes tournament, won the Mega title the following year and won the 5th Copa Antonio Pena. Electro Shock also had a handful of MMA fights and while his 4-5 record might not be dazzling, the fact he did it when closing in on 40 and while maintaining his lucha career does say something. The Electro Shock character had run its course in AAA and he decided to leave. Most of AAA’s top talent had left at one point or another with mixed results. Due to AAA owning his name, he became Mr. Electro and spent a couple years working the independents. In 2018, he returned to AAA as a representative of Lucha Libre Elite.
