Place in History - In the 1980s, there were a number of four hundred pounders that saw success largely based on their girth. The One Man Gang might have had the size to gain him some initial attention, but his ability got him over and took him into main events. Cutting his teeth as Randy Savage’s bumbling giant Crusher Broomfield in the ICW, he showed great potential. He developed the One Man Gang persona in the years that followed, developing his working style as well as the biker elements that set him apart. The Gang wore all black and denim vest, he had skulls and chains and even a mohawk, but the tattoos on his head put it over the top. He was a monster heel, but was young and hungry unlike many others in that role. Several promotions, especially the Mid-South, used the Gang very well as he battled babyfaces like Kerry Von Erich, Jim Duggan and Steve Williams. He, unlike many other bad guys, could dwarf these hulks. The WWF wisely brought him in to do the same for Hulk Hogan. He could've been one of Hulk Hogan's great rivals, but like King Kong Bundy and Kamala, he was soon cast aside. Sadly, the WWF repackaged him as Akeem, an unforgettably terrible African gimmick. They put him with the Big Bossman as the Twin Towers and they were an impressive tag team for a time. Unfortunately, Akeem was played for comedy and while lesser monster heels like Zeus and Earthquake came in, he was phased out. The Gang went to WCW and worked the indies, but he lost so many potentially good years in the WWF. He proves should serve as a historical lesson that monster heels like Abdullah the Butcher, Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody probably wise to stay away from the WWF.
