    • Live stranded on 03/23/2024 in the Zeballos Causeway, Vancouver Island, Canada with a dead harbor seal in her mouth around 7 am. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation and DFO, she passed away at 10:20am from drowning as rescuers were unable to shift her on to her stomach to remove her blowhole from the incoming tide. This area is noted by the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation to be one where the tide changes quickly, and it is thought that this quick change caught T109A3 unawares as she taught T109A3A how to hunt. A necropsy performed revealed that she had been pregnant with a female calf (NO# 2024) at the time of her stranding

    • T109A3A kʷiisaḥiʔis/Brave Little Hunter (Kwee-saw-hay-iss) (Female; 2022)

      • Was present when T109A3 stranded in the Zeballos Causeway, Vancouver Island, Canada. She stayed near T109A3, circling the shallows while the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation tried to save T109A3. Members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation have gone out on boats to search for other killer whales who she might join up with, but her chances of survival depend on her age and the family structure of the pod she may join. It is not yet known if she will be able to join another matriline or rejoin the T109As. After a month, she finally left the lagoon on 4/26/2023 at 2am. She was found and monitored later that morning and seemed to be in good health. Since leaving the lagoon, she has been seen multiple times, though she has yet to join a pod. Name means "brave little hunter" in the Nuučaan̓uɫ (Nuu-chah-nulth) language
