Athletes can participate in a number of events based on different strokes and distances for swimmers of all abilities. The season runs from mid-March thru June. For region and state competition, Swimmers are grouped according to abilities so that all events are competitive. More information about swimming is available here.

2026 Swimming Information
Special Olympics Swimming is a competitive sport, offering events for all swimming abilities. Please note that this sport does not include swimming lessons.
Practice Details:
Dates: Practice begins on Wednesday, March 18 with additional practices on 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15 and 4/22. All practices will be on Wednesdays. (Additional dates in May - 6, 13, 20 and June - 3, 10, 17 are tentative as Coaches consider additional practice and/or other activities after the Regional Tournament. No State Tournament in 2026 - details below.
Time: Arrive at pool at 7:00 p.m. Practice will begin at 7:15 and end at 8:15
Location: Lake Middle School, 3133 Pioneer Drive, Woodbury
The Blazing Stars will participate in the Special Olympics Minnesota Regional Tournament on April 26. (See details below. There will not be a State Tournament this year due the the 2026 USA Games held in Minneapolis on June 20 - 26.
Additional Swimming Team activities to follow the Regional Tournament are being considered and will be announced at a later date.
Please review the swim team information and click on the red "Registration" button below. The registration form includes contact information and a chance to choose the swimming events you like - if you know them. If not, coaches will help you select events at practice.
2026 Team Capacity:
Our Swim team size will be based on the pool capacity for swimmers and the required number of volunteer coaches (1 coach to 4 swimmers). If we have more athletes registered than we have openings, participation priority will be based on the following criteria:
1. Current Blazing Stars Swim Team members.
2. Athletes that are currently on the Blazing Stars roster. (Athletes supported by a Blazing Stars Certified Coach or team management volunteer will receive priority.) If more Blazing Stars athletes register than we have available team spots, selection will be based on a random drawing of athletes.
2. Athletes from other delegations. If more athletes register than we have available team spots, selection will be based on a random drawing.
Tournaments and Competitions:
Athletes are required to participate in the Regional Tournament.
The Regional Tournament is April 26th, 2026.

Due to the USA Games being held in Minnesota in 2026, there will be no State Tournament.
We plan to continue swimming after the Regional Tournament.
Besides practice, we are looking at other competition/meet options.
Registration Fees:
The normal registration fee for swimming is $40 per athlete. As there is no state tournament in 2026, the $40 fee is optional if you would like to contribute to the cost of pool rental.
