Clutch Decision Matrix

The original drivetrain design implemented an Ogura Electric Clutch. After testing during milestone 7, the team decided to seek alternative clutch options for the design. The two other clutch configurations considered were the centrifugal clutch with a manual override and a standard automotive clutch. Further testing was done on the centrifugal clutch with the manual override after considering the factors pictured above. Test results in milestone 11 showed the centrifugal clutch maintained positive engagement under high torque and the throwout bearing properly engaged at low RPM. For these reasons, the centrifugal clutch with the throwout bearing will be the final clutch design as the team progresses towards constructing the design.
