The Mary Hoge band program is primarily designed to provide students with an enriching and diverse instrumental music education.
This class provides several performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. The daily objective of the course is to foster and promote musical growth through the playing of an instrument by the student. As a member of the band program, group effort and cooperation are necessary for a successful program. The band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course.
The Jaguar Band was established in 2000 and has been growing stronger every year. We are here to develop citizens that will be productive in the community and to give back to the community with musical performances. The MHMS Jaguar Band has received Sweepstakes for several years and Superior Ratings on Stage even more years. The Mary Hoge Symphonic Band competed in the Honor Band competition in 2018 and advanced to the Area competition. The MHMS Mighty Jaguar Band has performed in several schools and community events. They perform at school pep rallies, football games, open houses, Central Office Christmas gatherings, and school concerts. The bands also perform Christmas music for the staff and students at several elementary schools every year. The band plays at one Wildcat Varsity football game along with the Wildcat Regiment. In the community, the band has performed at the Weslaco Alfresco, the annual Christmas Tree lighting, Veterans Day performances, and local nursing homes. They have also been performing in the Weslaco Fine Arts Fiesta for a few years.
