2ND ASSISTANT DRUM MAJOR
JUNIOR | CLARINET
Meet Edie Lopez, a junior at Weslaco East High School, who is proudly serving her third year with the Wildcat Regiment as a second assistant drum major. Beyond her dedication to the band, Edie is the president of the Astronomy Club, an active member of Business Professionals of America, an Academic UIL participant, and a member of the National Honor Society.
Throughout her time at Weslaco East, Edie has earned numerous accolades, including Division 1 ratings at Pigskin competitions over the past two years alongside her fellow Regiment members. She is also a state qualifier for Solo and Ensemble in both 2023 and 2024.
"When I first joined the Regiment, the prospect of memorizing and performing a 9-minute show felt overwhelming. However, the directors were incredibly understanding and supportive, guiding me through the process. Before long, I found myself performing at my first Pigskin competition. The following year, I was honored to be selected as a captain, working alongside an outstanding team. Now, as I enter my junior year as the 2nd Assistant Drum Major, I'm more excited than ever to see how this season unfolds.
The Regiment has become a second home to me, especially during summer band, where I spend more time with the directors and my fellow members than with my own family. I know I can always rely on them for advice and guidance.
My experience with the Regiment has significantly enhanced my leadership skills and my ability to communicate effectively. Moreover, I've built lasting friendships that I wouldn't have made outside of the band. This season, I'm particularly looking forward to competition days, as competing against other bands is the highlight of my band experience. One of my most cherished memories with the Regiment is dancing to 'The Jungle' with other bands after we earned our Division 1 rating at Pigskin.
My advice to new members is not to get discouraged by the challenges of the music or marching. It becomes much easier with time, and there is an entire leadership team dedicated to helping ease the transition from 8th to 9th grade."
"Every member of the team is committed to your success. Joining the band is one of the best decisions you can make, as it provides you with a second family. The band is a close-knit group that grows and evolves together"
