"Hello, my name is Laura Cedillo-Rivera, and I am the director for the Starling Silks Colorguard program. I graduated from Weslaco High School in 2008. Following this, I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Education in 2012 and was a member of the colorguard program within The Longhorn Band. I then took a 2-year break before returning to school in Spring 2014 to earn my Master of Arts in History from the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley. I first began teaching in the Fall of 2012 at Weslaco High School as a Social Studies teacher where I continue to do so. I also taught their Color Guard program from Fall 2012 to Fall 2013 before taking the Starlettes Director position at Weslaco East High School in Spring 2014, where they served as both the drill team and colorguard team. In the Spring semester of the 2021-2022 school year, our program split from the drill team and into what is now the Starling Silks Colorguard, where I continued on as the Colorguard director. I have had the privilage of serving as the colorguard director at Weslaco East HS for the past decade and hope to continue to do so in the future.
