The Dr. Armando Cuellar Beginner Band is composed of 6th-grade students that start their middle school years learning a new instrument. This group performs in two concerts a year. This group learns about music theory, music pedagogy, and builds fundamental skills through basic, enduring, technical, and tone exercises.
The Dr. Armando Cuellar Middle School beginner band performs at school concert hosted during the fall semester and spring semester.
"I am Olivia Aguayo Martinez and I am the Head Band Director at Cuellar Middle School and Assistant Band Director at Weslaco East High School. I was born and raised in this great city of Weslaco! I graduated in 2000 from Weslaco High School and went to college to pursue a degree in music. I earned a Bachelor's in Music from the University of Texas in San Antonio in 2005. I was thrilled when a job opened up in my Alma Mater and I have been teaching in Weslaco ISD ever since! Going strong on 15 years now! I love teaching my kids about the art and beauty of making music and about appreciating different Genres of music!"

The Dr. Armando Cuellar Concert Band is composed of 7th and 8th graders that perform at school pep rallies, football games, concerts, and competitions. This group explores different band literature in various, contrasting styles. The class is designed to build fundamental skills through basic, enduring, technical, and tone exercises. This is a great opportunity to fine-tune playing and listening skills in an ensemble setting.
In the spring of 2019, the Dr. Armando Cuellar Middle School Concert band received a Division 2 at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. In the spring of 2020, the Concert Band made school history by receiving their first Sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. This is a huge honor for a second band to obtain and we are proud of those students' hard work and dedication.
"I am Victoria Ledesma Garza and I am the Woodwind Director at Weslaco East High School. I am also the conductor for the Dr. Armando Cuellar MS Concert Band, which earned their first sweepstakes in school history in the Spring of 2020. I also assist with the flutes at Mary Hoge MS. I graduated from Sharyland High School in 2010 and then attended Texas A&M University- Kingsville where I graduated in 2014 with a BA in Music Education. During my time at TAMUK, I was a member of the Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Symphony, the TAMUK Flute Studio, and Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority. After gaining my BA, I began my teaching career at Weslaco ISD and am now entering my seventh year of teaching. I currently live in Weslaco with my husband of five years and with my three fur babies, one dog, and two cats. "

In 2014, Dr. Armando Cuellar MS Symphonic Band earned a Division 1 Superior rating in Sight Reading at the UIL Evaluation. The Symphonic Band continued a streak and received a Division 1 Superior rating on stage at the UIL evaluation in 2015 and 2016. The following year the band earned a Sweepstakes Award at the UIL Evaluation and has kept it ever since, keeping a tradition of excellence!
