FIELD CAPTAIN
JUNIOR | FLUTE
Meet Mikayla Lucio, a junior at Weslaco East High School. Lucio is serving her third year, as a field captain for the Wildcat Regiment this season. Mikayla has received numerous awards during her time at Weslaco East High School. She has participated in Pigskin competitions over the past 2 years and received Division 1 ratings with her fellow Regiment members; she was recognized with the 2024 Symphonic Band Directors Choice Award.
“My experience with the Wildcat Regiment is so fun and amazing. Anyone who wants to join the band should join. We work hard together and we have fun together. The Wildcat regiment is like a second family to me and I love that family so much. The Wildcat Regiment is an organization to work hard and have fun. It has made me work on myself and become a better musician and person.
What I am most looking forward to this season is how the marching show Harlequin will go. It is such a wonderful concept and the show will be just as wonderful. My favorite memory with the Wildcat regiment is my first-ever Band Olympics. We played so many games and had so much fun together. I loved how everyone seemed so happy. Everyone was acting like little kids and it was amazing.”
“The advice I would give to incoming freshmen is I know you may be scared or nervous but the Wildcat Regiment is not just an organization, we are a family, and no matter what we will accept you into it. I recommend joining a band because it is a different experience than other things you can do. Marching band is like a mix of sport and music. It helps you build on your confidence, physical body, and mental health. It makes you become a better person than how you were in the beginning.”
"We are a family, and no matter what we will accept you into it."
