Meet Joshua Chairez, Class of 2019 Weslaco East High School Alumni and former member of the Wildcat Regiment. During his time at Weslaco East High School, Chairez served as an officer of the Drumline for the Wildcat Regiment. He also served as a member of the WEHS Theatre, WEHS Mariachi Tecuani, and as a founder member of the WEHS Conjunto Salvaje. Adam marched in four consecutive shows entitled; 2015 Illumina Noctume, 2016 Bacelli, 2017 Andalucia, and 2018 Persephone. The Regiment was under the direction of Ron Bissett and in 2017 they were under the direction of Armando Cuellar.
"My favorite memories of the Wildcat Regiment were when the drumline played jungle in the middle of the gym during the pep rallies, Drum line battles with Weslaco High at Olive Garden, and coordinating the Band Olympics themes with the drumline was so much fun. The crowds and cheers were something that made it all worth it in the end. "
"The Wildcat Regiment has taught me many valuable skills such as time management, effort, teamwork, and discipline. Another valuable impact it made was being able to look back at my high school years and know that I belonged somewhere and had fun in a healthy way instead of seeking other outlets. I recommend joining band because it allows students to express their desire to be athletic, musical, creative, and social in a positive way."
Joshua is currently attending Texas State University and is pursuing a Music Education Degree with a minor in Mariachi Studies. During his time at Texas State, Chairez has served as a Bobcat Marching Band Officer, a member of the Texas State Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Symphony, and Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Mariachi Lince de Oro, and Mariachi Nueva Generacion. He has also started his own Norteno group called the Los Comandantes De San Marcos.
Joshua is currently engaged to the love of his life and is set to be married in December 2022. He hopes to one day start his own music studio, teach mariachi, start a church choir and perform professionally.
