It has been a rewarding experience for me to participate in community activities including:
Town Meeting Member for 6 terms
EN KA Society Member
League of Women Voters Winchester Member
Election Officer (poll worker) for many years
Wright-Locke Farm Land Trust Board of Directors
Wright-Locke Farm Conservancy Board of Directors
Nine-year term on the Winchester Historical Commission
The issues that are most important to me are:
Support mixed-use development and affordable housing
Mitigate traffic and pedestrian safety risks
Stimulate the commercial vitality of town center
Invest in a high-performing school system
Protect the historical character and natural beauty of Winchester
Of these important issues, the one I feel most passionate about is affordable housing. Winchester has much to offer for people who wish to live here, but the cost of housing is prohibitive for individuals and young families. It is also expensive to rent an apartment in Winchester.
Winchester deserves high marks for:
An excellent school system that provides a quality education.
There are numerous opportunities for residents to serve as a volunteer for Town Meeting, Boards, Committees, and Commissions.
Town employees that work so hard to serve our community.
Neighbors helping neighbors.
Fun for everyone! Town Day, EN KA Parade and Fair, Halloween walk, and sports.
Improvements that are needed:
Provide more affordable housing units.
Increased promotion and support of local businesses.
Traffic calming measures to protect walkers, bicyclists, and responsible drivers.
Development that is in character of all areas of town, and specifically our Town Center.
Without hesitation, I support both recommendations of the Communications Study Committee. (1) Preparation of a communications plan and (2) The hiring of a new full-time position (salary and benefits) be appointed by 2015.
I respectfully ask for your vote for an additional term as a Precinct 5 Town Meeting member. Thank you!
