Put your beret on your head and use the strings on the back to adjust the beret to fit your head. The back of the beret should align with the middle of your head and for female cadets above your bun.
Tie the strings tightly to secure the beret in the size that best fits your head. Cut any excess string. (If the berets given in your company are not new and have been cut to size, do not try to undo the knot. Instead ask for a beret that fits your head)
Get a disposable razor and shave the beret starting with the top. Shave lightly from the outside to the inside to get rid of excess wool but be careful not to go over the same place too many times because this will make the wool thin and a hole may form.
After shaving the top of the beret, flip the beret inside out to shave the inside of the beret as well. Be careful to shave parts of the beret that are only wool.
Wetting the beret method 1:
a.) Get a bowl of warm water large enough to submerge the beret. You should be able to put your hands in the bowl without discomfort.
b.) Submerge your beret in the water and let it soak for around thirty seconds or until completely wet. Then wring out as much water as you can.
Wetting the beret method 2 (best method to avoid smell):
c.) Slightly run your beret under water only wetting the part that will need to be folded and add water as needed while the beret is on your head
Place the beret on your head with the insignia above your left eye and the band approximately one inch above your eyebrows. With one hand, grab the insignia and gently pull the beret to fold over the front and right side. Pull the beret down in a petting motion down to the tip of your right ear but above the earlobe. Try to make the beret as smooth as possible.
Avoid rubbing your hands on the beret too much as this may result in linting
While the beret is still wet, use a clip or heavy object to keep the beret in shape while it dries
Take off the pins once dried
Place the beret on your head with the insignia above your left eye. The band of the beret should be about 1 inch or two finger widths above your brows. The back of the beret should align with the middle of your head and just above the bun for females.
