Venture Matrix is a work-related learning scheme at Sheffield Hallam University, allowing students to put their theory into practice through relevant projects with local, national or international organisations. All of these projects are accredited as part of the students' degree course, so not only are students working towards completing their degree, they're also gaining real world experience at the same time (Venture Matrix, 2020).
The organisations that students support come from the private, public and third sector and from across multiple industries. The projects have no monetary cost to the organisations, as they are as much a learning experience for students, as they are a beneficial resource for the organisations, who are able to access the knowledge, skills and expertise of the students. (SHU, 2020)
The scheme also adds value to the work of academic staff at Sheffield Hallam, allowing them to embed employability into their modules and courses whilst gaining support from the Venture Matrix to manage the logistical elements this involves. This allows them to focus their time on supporting students and ensuring their success. (SHU, 2020)
The Venture Matrix scheme has been supporting students, academics and organisations for approximately twelve years, growing their offer to support more of each stakeholder each year. The team's work has been recognised at a local, national and international level through various awards, most notably of which is the CATE award (Advance-HE, 2020)
A copy of the Venture Matrix 19-20 annual report can be found here, detailing more information.
