It's important to understand the stakeholders involved and what level of influence they have on the Venture Matrix scheme. The ecosystem map to the left, modelled on Sollers (2020), depicts the Venture Matrix, at the centre of it's ecosystem, surrounded by three rings:
Core Stakeholders
Extended Stakeholders
Business Level Stakeholders
This ring highlights the main stakeholders who have the biggest influence on Venture Matrix. The Venture Matrix team can more readily look to these stakeholder to provide resource, whether that's through cross functional collaboration with 'Internal Directorates' or developing less resource intensive methods of teaching delivery with 'Academics'. However, these stakeholders can also readily take resource away, for example a greater number of students can quickly overwhelm the supply side of Venture Matrix.
These comprise of stakeholders who are more distant and have less influence, but however still play a key role in providing the back-end services which are required to run the Venture Matrix. These stakeholders can't be as easily influenced and as the Venture Matrix is part of a wider organisation, with existing supplier and partner agreements, there's little scope for switching to alternative suppliers.
These stakeholders don't have an impact on the day-to-day operations of Venture Matrix, however they still have an influence on the success of the scheme. A recognition of these stakeholders should be sought and their impact and potential impact on the scheme evaluated. For example, the Venture Matrix recently succeeded in applying for a national recognition award, the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE). Having an awareness of this Business Level Stakeholder and evaluating how a collaboration could add value to the scheme has resulted in a successful outcome. More of these collaborations must be sought to drive forward the Venture Matrix scheme.
However, there are Drivers and Barriers to consider which are explored in the next part. Click on the link below to find out more.
