This is another key element to the foundation of a successful digital transformation. The Venture Matrix team comprises of a spectrum of academic developers, project managers, learning technologists, business developers and administrative staff, who collaborate to provide the innovative unique work-related learning scheme. The team has grown over the past 12 years, to accommodate 11 members of staff, many of which have progressed from being placement students or graduate interns through to leadership roles in the team.
The mix of leadership and operational roles lends itself to a good balance between the direction and creation of innovative pedagogies with the ability to apply these to curriculum

However, the team may want to investigate the implementation of another structure, which would allow for 'external experts' to provide input into specific areas, bringing in fresh ideas and thinking to help drive innovation and progression of the scheme. (ENRD, 2020)
The new proposed structure encompasses a similar hierarchy approach, lead by the SL Academic Development role. However each row represents a different thematic team, which focuses on a specialist area; for example:
Specialist areas
Row One - Pedagogy Development - Responsible for development of new models and activities
Row Two - Operational Delivery - Responsible for day-to-day activities of Venture Matrix
Row Three - Digital Application and Processes - Responsible for the application of digital produces and services to enable new models/activities to be realised in practice

The collection of thematic teams make up the Venture Matrix entity.
The culture within the Venture Matrix team has been described as "really special", remaining "consistent no matter what problems we face we always manage to keep the culture the same" and "operating on a no blame basis, with the whole team pulling together to solve problems"
This culture of no blame and working as one is really important and should be protected as a core entity and identity throughout the digital transformation journey
Sheffield Hallam University (2019)
There may be a good culture in the team, but this doesn't translate to it's ability to function in the future. A survey undertaken with Venture Matrix team members, 80% of respondents weren't confident about the scheme's ability to operate in the future.
Scale: 1 = 'Extremely Worried' through to 5 = 'Extremely Confident'
James Coope (2020)
The team have a good understanding of the Venture Matrix's aim, with 70% highlighting that the Venture Matrix aims to 'Support students to put their theory into practice', which correlates with the research highlighted on the Venture Matrix page.
Regarding the organisation's vision and strategy, staff should be reminded to refresh their understanding of the University's Strategy and Implementation Plan regularly.
James Coope (2020)
It is recommended that Venture Matrix staff undertake a LinkedIn Learning short course on 'Creating a Culture of Change', which will add value to the team's understanding of culture and change and prepare them for the digital transformation stages ahead.
Agile innovation provides an avenue which Venture Matrix staff can utilise to support change. Click on the link below to find out more.
