Having trouble with Brother printer telling you to add toner?

Our Brother printers have a page counter that determines when the messages to replace toner or drum appear on the printer display.  The page counter is supposed to reset when a new toner is installed.  Unfortunately, this reset process sometimes fails, and the page counter needs to be reset manually.  The instructions for the manual reset are in Document P03

There is a similar reset process for drum replacement.  NTSC recommends that the manual process always be done when a drum is replaced.  The process is in Document P09.
