Chromebooks were issued to all AARP Foundation TaxAide sites for TY19. After extensive research, Tax-Aide National decided that Chromebooks had better security, cost, and convenience than PCs.
Tax-Aide National will manage and control the Operating System, configuration settings, and security updates on every Chromebook thereby reducing the possibility of a security breach.
Expected to save over 50,000 volunteer hours spent "re-imaging" PCs.
A Chromebook is about half of the cost of a Windows PC.
Repair rates and costs should be reduced as well.
Each user will be assigned a new user ID each tax season, in the format: <9-digit volunteer ID><ty##>@aarpfoundation.org (for example: 123456789ty25@aarpfoundation.org). The “ty##” portion will change each year, but the volunteer ID will remain the same.
Your user ID is your 9-digit AARP Foundation volunteer ID.
To find your ID, log in to the AARP Volunteer Portal, and enter your name in the search box at the top of the home page.
Your LC will also have your Volunteer ID.
Each user will have a cloud account based on Volunteer ID – i.e. no data stored on the individual Chromebook.
