A Local Coordinator (LC) manages each of our sites. Shift Coordinators (SCs or SCOs) manage a shift at a site, either with or without the Local Coordinator's presence. All Local Coordinators, Shift Coordinators, and anyone else who might be called upon to be in charge of a site for any length of time must take AARP Local Coordinator training and have their training record noted accordingly. If, at any time, an IRS person shows up at a site, they must be able to look at the training records we have sent in and see that the person in charge has taken the training.
Training for all LCs and Shift Coordinators is available in the portal and also in Link and Learn.
If you don't see the Local Coordinator Training in the portal, search for it in the Content Library. (See Using the Portal for tips on how to use the portal and find courses.)
Before you can take the Site Coordinator test in Link and Learn, you need to go into "My Account" and answer YES to the question: "Do you want to take the Site Coordinator certification?" That will make the test appear in your list.
Once you pass this test, it will be reflected on your Volunteer Agreement. Please let Jean Bond (bondjr2@gmail.com) know when you have completed the training.
All LCs and instructors should sign up for TaxSlayer’s VITA/TCE Blog email notifications. Announcements concerning TaxSlayer’s current status will be made on that blog.

The group exists to exchange ideas about best practices with respect to all aspects of the Tax-Aide program. Members are encouraged to alert the list when new technical problems are identified or resolved, and to bring their thorniest problems to the group for helpful suggestions.

They look at all 10 QSR’s (Pub 5166) and the site gets 10 points for each with a top score of 100%.
Here are the top 3 items that usually do not get a “10”.
Is everyone qualified?
Each site must have a Site Coordinator(SC)/Local Coordinator (LC) and someone who is qualified (in writing) that can take over if the SC is sick that day. Make sure your certification list has a “deputy” for each of your sites. Your list must have two people per site with SC training.
Is the Intake & Interview (I&I) sheet used and annotated by the counselor for every taxpayer?
Is a second interview conducted by the QR using the I&I Sheet? Is that marked on the I&I sheet? In prior years there was a place for the signature or initials of both the Counselor and Reviewer. No longer. However, there is a comment section at the bottom of page 3. A good site practice would be for both the counselor and the reviewer to initial there that the return matches the Intake Sheet.
Is the tax return correct and does it match the annotated I&I sheet?
A good QR with a separate interview will produce a quality return. Just make sure they both initial the I&I sheet.
