The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is the nation's largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation service. Volunteers in this program prepare taxes for low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to seniors. The national program helped over 1.7 million taxpayers during Tax Year 2024, with over 28,000 volunteers at over 3,300 sites.
This website is designed to support the volunteers who serve the Tax-Aide program of Northern Virginia.

The Northern Virginia District 5 Tax-Aide district prepared and filed over 6,000 tax returns during tax year 2022. We operate at 11 locations across Northern Virginia.
Every year 50-75 new volunteers join our existing volunteers. All of our volunteers receive training every year -- basic training for new volunteers and refresher training for experienced volunteers. All volunteers must become certified to prepare taxes every year. More information about our training program and certification requirements can be found on this website under the Training tab.
The Resources tab contains information and links to documents and websites which the volunteers will use in either their training or while they are preparing returns.
The Leadership Corner tab is primarily for those volunteers who provide services to the Tax-Aide program. Here you can find the names and email addresses of the Leadership team, of the Local Coordinators who manage the sites, and of the instructors who provide our training. In addition, there are resources for those individuals to assist them as they conduct their activities in support of the program.
