Maglite Vari-Beam 2C, 2D

The Vari-Beam and Maglite are essentially the same product, with the only distinguishing feature being the blue body, silver head, and bottom cap. This color combination was already present in the late 1970s in the Kel-Lite Stud-Lite, which was primarily marketed to truck drivers.

Even earlier, I have seen similar color schemes on metal flashlights dating back to the 1960s or before.

The Maglite Vari-Beam, available in D and C models, was produced between 1980 and 1984. There are claims that the target market was truck drivers or industrial users, while others say the company attempted to sell them to the general public through department stores, though the sales were not very good, especially for the C series, resulting in a short production run.

This blue color is not the same as the more recent "Royal Blue" used by Maglite. The Vari-Beam's blue is called "Sky Blue" and is a lighter shade.

The classic color combination of light blue body, silver head, and bottom cap is exceptionally well-suited for visibility in dark environments, which was likely the primary motivation behind this design.

Due to the short production period and the vintage of these flashlights, they are now quite rare and highly sought after by collectors.
