Mayor provides update on repair projects

March 17, 2021

Despite delays, Mayor Tyler M. Eblin is pleased to announce that one of two repair projects occurring in the Village of Rutland is nearing successful completion.

Work at a property along Main Street near the former Joe's Country Market focused on replacing a defective catch basin and drain pipe that, for years, impeded the flow of water, consequently leading to stagnant water in an open field near residences as well as ground erosion beneath a nearby sidewalk.

The defective system is now replaced by a new catch basin and drain pipes hooked into the Village's storm sewer, allowing for a properly channeled, uninterrupted flow of water.

"Residents in this area in the community have long awaited for a solution to defective infrastructure that has given their neighborhood nuisance backwater and a sidewalk crippled by erosion," comments Mayor Eblin. "One of the best feelings is putting our resident's tax dollars to work, seeing results and making this community more enjoyable to live in."

The project resulted in the immediate flow of back water from the nearby field into the Village's storm sewer. Mayor Eblin notes that water flow will improve once existing drain pipes are flushed, work that the Village will be working to complete in the weeks forthcoming.

The disbursement of seed and mulch took place on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 with more disbursement to take place on Thursday. Concrete work for the new sidewalk is tentatively expected to take place in the next two weeks.

The second project involves the repair of a collapsed catch basin grate near the intersection of Main and Salem streets. Mayor Eblin indicates that this project will tentatively be completed by next Thursday.

"Infrastructure in the Village of Rutland needs our devoted attention now more than ever," comments Mayor Eblin. "It is my goal to secure the funding necessary and address this very issue, head on."

The Mayor and Village Council express their sincere appreciation to all who have contributed to the success of this project, including those who addressed contingencies occurring during the project's implementation.
