Most important for starters is getting Data-Chips early on.
Basically go down into the mission, avoid the mission Items/Tasks and just look for Data-Chips.
That way you can collect as many weapons and utilities and try them all.
Just make sure to "evacuate" (Press T and pick Evacuate) once you picked up one or more Data-Chips.

Data-Chips can be found on the Floor and in Boxes, Crates, Caches and Shelves etc.! Most Crates Boxes and Shelves will show if they are filled or not here are a few examples. Some storages will not look different if they are full or empty.
If you are Chip hunting, make sure to check all of them.
Some boxes might be locked, maybe cracking them open will work?
*Lockers have to be checked manually as they do not show if there is content inside or not.
*EDIT: Lockers now ( as of Early Access ) have now visual indicators when filled (doors opened), there are Vending Machines, Servers and other Storages now that might not show their status, so you better check manually.
