A healthy citizen contributes to make a healthy nation. Over the years, the government of West Bengal has introduced various health programmes and health schemes to better the standard of life of its citizens. Health Programmes & Schemes
The Health & Family Welfare Department of the State Government is mainly responsible for maintaining and developing the health care system in the State. State provides financial and managerial support for the basic health care support and infrastructural facilities at the rural level, while the State level super specialty Medical Colleges & Hospitals predominantly provides the ambulatory care services with an intention is to build a better health service, reporting, health communication. About 80% of the Government health care services to the citizens are being provided free of cost.

Reproductive Child Health Programme
The Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Programme was launched throughout the country on 15th October, 1997. This programme aimed at achieving a status in which women will be able to regulate their fertility, women will be able to go through their pregnancy and child birth safely, the outcome of pregnancies will be successful and will lead to survival and well being of the mother and the child.
