Vaibhav Lokur is a theatre practitioner and researcher dedicated to exploring the transformative power of theatre in education and community development. He earned a Master’s in Theatre Arts from Savitribai Phule Pune University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Storytelling at FLAME University.
Vaibhav’s artistic portfolio includes directing the Marathi adaptation of Girish Karnad’s Hayavadana titled Hayagaan (2015), which delves into themes of identity and incompleteness. In 2024, he directed the Kannada play Dear Aajo, a reflective piece on familial and intergenerational ties. These works exemplify his commitment to adapting traditional narratives for modern audiences while retaining their cultural integrity.
As the founder of Kalavkaash Art Foundation, a Belagavi-based organization, Vaibhav leads initiatives like theatre workshops, teacher training programs, and cultural events. His applied theatre practice frequently incorporates traditional art forms, such as Yakshagana, blending them with contemporary storytelling methods to create impactful educational experiences.
Beyond his artistic endeavors, Vaibhav has contributed significantly to arts education through roles such as Project Officer at QUEST and content coordinator at Junoon. His projects often involve collaboration with educators and artists to develop holistic learning models.
Vaibhav’s academic contributions include presenting his research on Goshtarang at an international Applied Theatre conference in 2020. His work has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Inlaks Theatre Award (2017) and the CCRT Junior Research Fellowship (2018) (discontinued).
Committed to fostering cultural sustainability in his hometown, Vaibhav continues to use theatre as a tool for personal growth and societal change, emphasizing the role of performance in nurturing creativity and life skills.
