Traditional urban economics has provided important theories for understanding land markets, land rent, and urban development. However, these approaches primarily focus on land prices, market equilibrium, and economic efficiency. They provide limited explanations of how urban value evolves through the interactions of infrastructure, accessibility, land use, public investment, governance, environmental systems, and human activities.
The Urban Land Value Field (ULVF) introduced a new perspective by representing urban land value as a continuous field distributed across space and time. Yet, understanding the existence of a value field alone is not sufficient. Modern cities require a scientific framework capable of explaining how urban value is created, propagated, accumulated, transformed, and governed.
Urban Value Field Economics (UVFE) was developed to address this need.
UVFE extends the concept of the Urban Value Field beyond spatial representation by investigating the dynamics of urban value. It provides a field-based economic framework for understanding value flows, spatial interactions, policy impacts, and urban evolution in complex urban systems.
By integrating urban economics, spatial science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins, and systems science, UVFE establishes a new theoretical foundation for evidence-based urban planning, sustainable land governance, and smart city development.
