- Transporter Room – ESS Nimitz -
It didn't quite take 15 minutes; Maia called for a science tech and an engineer who were already in the transporter room when they got there. Once they were dressed Maia ordered the transport.
They materialized in a vacuum, there was no gravity or lighting so they had to use there magnetic boots and EVA suit illuminators to move around and see. This deck was intact no sign of decompressive explosion, no bodies either. Not only was it disorienting, but it was also kind of spooky.
- Bridge -
As she stepped onto the bridge “update Major?” She asked as Donovan quickly vacated the command chair.
“Tractor lock is solid we are at warp one heading for Starbase 39 Sierra, what is the status on our icicles?” S’arila asked.
Sitting in her chair and smiling at the Majors terminology “both are thawed, one is still out cold, but the Lieutenant is full of questions and requests and healthy” She answered then looked at Barker “Mr. Barker drop us to full impulse Commander Sterling will be leading an away team over, our conscious guest wishes to get stuff from her quarters”
“Aye Captain, dropping to sub-light” Barker responded.
She swivelled in her seat and looked at Donovan “notify transporter room of the Away team lead by Commander Sterling, she will be taking the doctor, the Lieutenant and one Science Officer and one Engineer with her” Jasmine said.
“Yes Captain” Donovan replied and turned to face her console as she sent the message down to the transporter room.
Sitting back in her seat and facing front she began her Duty Log.
“Computer open Duty Log Stardate 239201.19”
“Log open”
“Captain’s duty log 239201.19, additional: We secured the displaced NX class ship in a tractor beam, engineering have managed to patch up some areas and make them breathable, but most of the ship is still without gravity or oxygen. One of the rescued officers a Lieutenant Tomoe Oda who was the ships Chief armoury officer wishes to return over there to reclaim some of her belongings. For her it is hard she has lost everyone she has ever known so I have authorised a small away team led by Lieutenant Commander Sterling to return over there with the Lieutenant who is on Doctor Cahill’s authority fit to leave Medical. As for the ship we now know the ship is from a parallel reality but one also from around the time of the Earth Romulan war, *pause* both Temporal investigations and Intelligence are going to have a field day with the ship, but the Temporal Prime directive does not count here the ship was adrift in space with only two crew in stasis.”
*Pause*
“Also they cannot go back, further debriefing of the survivors will I hope reveal more information also the ship should be handed over to engineering and Sciences for study after the proper burial’s of all the dead crew still on the ship are done. As for why it was not picked clean I am at a loss to explain it, Major Donovan tells me that the black boxes are old and that Lieutenant Sheela is having trouble accessing them, so until then I can only get Lieutenant Oda’s version; End log”
Finishing her log she presses a button on her chair arm.

- ESS Nimitz - Deck 4 –
"Looks like we are on deck 4, where are your quarters, Lieutenant Oda". Sterling said as the away team materialized.
Cahill followed along and check her tri-corder, I am looking to see if there are any others who may have survived. A slim chance but it is worth checking anyway. As we move along she looks at everything along the way. She spotted a couple of medical personnel that had died. Cahill went over to them and look at their stuff. She decided to remove some of the equipment from one of them and place it in the pack she had with her; then looked at Commander Sterling.
"I hope you don't mind. I am curious about the medical technology they had and wanted to study it. I also am interested in studying the Cryo tubes we have on the Tomcat as well. I want to see more about how it works." Cahill said.
Dr. Cahill had her tri-corder out and the sound of it made the place less spooky. The away team made their way down a corridor where they found some bodies, they seemed to b medical personnel and Dr Cahill seemed quite interested in them.
Maia turned to one of her engineering crew Ensign Garcia and said. "See if you can find anything resembling an EPS power tap, something we can plug a generator into to get some lights and heat in here".
"Aye Commander" He said.
He then increased his pace and about 15 feet and removed a panel scanned it with a tri-corder and plugged in a generator. A few moments later the lights came on to about 60 percent illumination. There still wasn't any heat indicating a problem with the environmental controls; and then he moved to a deck place about ten meters closer.
"Okay I'm going to adjust gravity slowly. I cant do anything about the heat but at least the grav boots can be demagnetized."
"Well done, Ensign Garcia. Inform the damage control teams to expedite repairs to the environmental systems".
Turns out they were standing about 10 meters from Sick bay.
"Dr. Cahill Your in luck.." Maia said as she saw Dr. Cahill checking some desiccated bodies they had found. From Maia's perspective they looked like mummies almost perfectly preserved just dehydrated for centuries.
When an opening presented itself "I see a piece of history here as you do too. I have the coordinates for the Sick Bay here. It is just past where Lieutenant Oda said her quarters are. With your permission I would like to check it out while she gets her stuff." Cahill said.
Then she looked over to Oda "Of course if you have not objections Commander Oda, with you being the highest ranking officer left from the Nimitz."
"Certainly not, I would do the same thing in a forensic study, collect what you can and then check out Sickbay, Commander Oda the doors should be working can you get into your quarters?"
Sterling paused a moment before she looked at Oda and asked a question.
"Commander Oda, is your sickbay on deck 4 or 5"?
She looked at Sterling “Deck four Commander”
She thanked Lieutenant Oda and smiled at Commander Sterling. "Thank you Lieutenant, Commander" As she took her leave.
Dr Cahill went to the door of Sick Bay it was partially open and allowed her to slid in with minimal problems. She was looking around when the lights came on. And some of the old Bio-beds started working as well. She notice a patient was laying on one. She got curious abut it and started do a post death exam she was looking at the data and found a lot out about what was going on due to the injuries. The wounds were caused by weapons from the ships own hand Phasers and phaser rifles.
As she continued she was able to get a lot of information on other things as well. She was able to download a lot of information from the medical computers due to her security clearance. As she continued she was getting more and more information. And the information was quite interesting as well. Once the medical files were downloaded she moved on to check out the equipment. As she did she tagged some of it to be beamed to Cargo Bay 4 for her to better examine it and better understand how it worked. In the normal confines of the Tomcat she could do it at a slower pace and be able to better understand it.
She was amazed at the quality of the surgical instruments and was also amazed at how advanced they actually were. she gathered up some for further review and was looking further. When she was surprised when she went to the morgue and was looking. She checked the caskets and was able to find the Captains casket. She tagged it and had it beamed immediately to Sick Bay on the Tomcat. She sealed it so she was the only one that could open it. She was wanting to see what had caused her death. And help to allow the investigation. She also tagged 3 other coffins but did not transfer them. They were to be done only if she needed more information.
Beaming onto the Nimitz was a strange feeling. While the Tomcat officers looked around with curiosity at what to them was a museum piece. to Tomoe it was her home, and the bodies she occasionally saw were her friends.
This particular corridor was one she walked every day, as it was where her quarters were, as well as sickbay and the officer's mess.
"I'll just be a few moments"
Tomoe walked into her quarters and stood just beyond the door for a moment until the door slid shut behind her. The place, like everything else on the Nimitz, was a shambles, but that didn't stop her from opening her wall locker and removing a leather shoulder bag, which she then proceeded to stuff full of her few remaining possessions.
Some were rather mundane. A book, a set of chopsticks and some small pruning shears and trimming knives used in Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), while others were far more impressive, such as the short double-barrel pistol-grip shotgun along with two boxes of shells, a larger pump-action shotgun that she just held in her left hand and a pistol case that contained a matched pair of .45 calibre colt pistols. She then walked over to the far wall and lovingly removed the two swords from their display stand and stuffed them both into her belt in traditional Samurai style, the early 10th century blades completely incongruous with her mid 22nd century uniform. Finally to her belt she clipped a standard 22nd century phase pistol, not before checking and being quite surprised to find that the battery still held a roughly half charge.
Possessions retrieved, Tomoe exited the room then returned to where Commander Sterling was and looked at her.
"I have what I need."
Cahill returned back to Commander Sterling, "I am so surprised at what I saw. I had some things beamed over to the Tomcat for further study. I also sent the CO back to the Tomcat. I would like to know more about how she died. I also got a couple of Phasers to compare the wound marking for reference."
She saw Lieutenant Oda come back, "I hope you found all you needed. If there is something to big to carry we can have it beamed back to the Tomcat if you need to Lieutenant Oda!"
Looking at the Doctor “Yes Doctor, thank you” Oda said and fell silent.
Once the business aboard the Nimitz was concluded the away team beamed back. Commander Oda got what she wanted and Dr. Cahill got her samples. There were no mishaps or casualties so it was a successful mission.
Lieutenant Oda reported to the briefing room, while Dr Cahill an Commander Sterling went down to cargo two to inspect some of the equipment that Dr Cahill had beamed over.
"I am interested in seeing exactly what you beamed over Dr. Cahill; can you elaborate a bit more on your findings"?
Cahill thought a moment and organized things around in her head for a moment before responding. "I was amazed at how far advanced the medical tri-corders were even for the time period. They were very effective and very accurate as well Captain. Then the bio-beds were very effective to. Not as comfortable as ours are but most of the time the patient is in no condition to complain about the comfort till they are ready to be discharged and returned to duty. I was also able to download the ships crew medical files from the Sick Bay computer Core. Further study may give us some more insight as to what was happening as well Captain. I will need to decode the files which will take a little.
It was during the pause that Somers arrived having just finished speaking to her new CoS, so she caught the second part of her explanation.
"I also brought the CO's body back to do an autopsy on and see if it sheds any light on what was going on in the final days before the remaining crew members went to the Cyro beds to try to save themselves. It may give some insight in determining what was going on at that time. I plan to do the autopsy in private. And only release the findings to you and LCMD Sterling. You and her can decide on who needs to know the findings" Cahill explained.
The Captain seemed to remain quiet but did nod once acknowledging what she had said, and then the First Officer spoke.
"Can you tell me what you have found out about the Cryo-tubes Doctor? Can you revive any more of the Nimitz crew? Also how many tubes were still operational"?
Maia scanned the tubes for operation structure and integrity; it was evident that they were highly jury rigged.
"I wonder if there was some sort of lottery to choose who was frozen and who wasn't they obviously couldn't freeze the entire crew"
"I am not sure if other crew members can be revived but I order Engineering to keep power going to the ones that have power just in case. I have logged all my information about there into the main computer and have sent that much to Starbase 39 Sierra. They are bringing others that have more experience with them than I do. It may be they have found other ships and have kept it under wraps to do research." Cahill answered then after a pause she continued.
"I have found that the tubes have a delay feature in them to allow for someone to activate it and then have time to enter it. It appears to have up to a 10 minute delay window" She said as she showed Sterling the controls that operate it.
"It does appear to that if put into a cryo-tubes and a problem occurred in say Engineering it would open the tubes of personnel to make the repair to that section. I also notice the shields over them offered some resistance to phaser fire for example but could be penetrated with several hits in the same place. They were also able to be opened automatically to allow different crew members to get up and relive the ones that was on duty to rest. Or if attacked to awaken all crew members to be able to defend the ship if necessary."
They were also able to be opened automatically to allow different crew members to get up and relive the ones that was on duty to rest. Or if attacked to awaken all crew members to be able to defend the ship if necessary. Doctor Cahill finished.
"Have you had a chance to decode the medical files you found?"
After that with a nod to all there Somers left medical and returned to the bridge.
