- ESS Nimitz - Sometime later -
As the away team lead by Jasmine moved further into the derelict formally known as ESS Nimitz the amount of bodies increased, most looked like they were trying to get somewhere and failed. Their Uniforms were the same as Pre-Federation in this Universe, so she assumed that the ESS Nimitz universe was from a reality that was so closely related to this one back then, the uniforms and ship names and registry numbers were identical.
"Careful people, we do not know what we will encounter" She said.
As the team moved forward each member of the team were scanning with their respective tri-corders. Donovan who was ahead of the rest suddenly paused and she moved around aiming her scanners all around. Without looking back she opened her mind.
“I am sensing one life-sign, their mind is curiously in an active high REM sleep, Doctor Cahill can you elaborate on why this is happening?” She asked Cahill.
"What I know about Stasis is what the Terran (Earth) ised when they first started deep space travel they would place them is a sleep state in cryo-stasis tubes like these. It reduced the amount of food and water supplies need for deep space travel. They did not have replicators then. So it allowed them to travel longer on fewer supplies."
*Pause*
"Deep REM sleep is the deepest form of sleep for any species that sleeps will enter it and that is when you dream. can bring them out of it but it will take some time to do it right. If done wrong it can kill them. I want Engineering to rig these cryo stasis chambers into the Tomcat power circuits when they are on the tomcat but keep the battery packs hooked up as a backup power systems in case there are problems. Also I want an engineering team standing by in Sick Bay at all times while I work to bring them out."
*pause*
"I also will put them in a less used area of Sick Bay with Security on the door to keep non-essential personnel out. One mistake or one wrong punched button can kill them. I will select the team of hand picked personnel myself. No exceptions."
“Interesting thank you doctor” Donovan responded and advanced forward sensing the rest were following.
“I sometimes envy the Major, but then I think of the training she had to go through and all the mental prep she has to do constantly just to keep our idle thoughts from driving her insane” Jasmine said.
They came to a junction here she turned to Sheela; “Lieutenant Sheela down there and to the left is the main computer core, get you down there and see if you can download all and any data you can. Oh and be careful, understood?” Jasmine asked.
Sheela looked down the corridor pausing for a few seconds. She nodded with her ears fully perked up and swivelling. Taking in the ambience of area.
Looking at Sheela “Good, get you gone El tee” She said and watched Sheela move off in the direction Jasmine had indicated. She turned to Donovan “okay Major take us to this life-sign” She said.
“Aye Captain” Donovan replied.
Sheela scampered off down the corridor. The halo of light around her head gotten smaller till it disappeared. Leaving behind an empty undisturbed corridor.
Sheela found the Computer Core room and the door to the room blocked with debris as if someone tried to hide it from view. It took her several minutes to remove the debris to gain access to the door.
She looked the door over and around the door jam for a control panel. She wrinkled her muzzle as there was none to be had, except a camera aimed to the floor. She stepped into view of the camera lens with her helmet oblique to make appear more human than a oversized bipedal mouse.
The door jerked in an iris fashion till an opening showed in the center. She looked it over and using a mirror on the end of a telescoping pole to see the other side. No booby traps.
She grabbed a piece of debris and used it to pry the door the rest of the way open. Big enough for her to slip through. Leaving the piece of debris across the iris type of doorway, Sheela proceeded on into the control room of the computer core mainframe.
With that they followed the Major as they came up on Cargo Bay Four, strangely this area of the corridor was clean and tidy, and Somers did not give it much thought.
“In there Captain” Donovan said pointing to the Cargo Bay.
“Okay lets get in there and be careful” She added as all three officers entered the Cargo bay and came face to face with about a dozen cryo-pods. “Check them all, Doctor you take left side, Donovan right, I will go down the middle” She added.
As the trio split up they did an entire search of the Cargo Bay and met in the middle next to the only two functioning tubes.
“Speak to me Major” Somers said.
Pointing to the first one “that one has the high REM pattern” The Major said wiping away the frost that had gathered there to show an Asian female wearing the old style Lieutenant Rank.
Jasmine cleared the glass on the other one, it was another junior officer “Doctor scan them both, while I contact the ship” Jasmine said and moved away to let the Doctor do a proper scan.
She moved in and did the scan as requested by the Captain.
"This one is stronger than the other one. It is apparent that they would not have been here much longer had we not got here now. The cyro Stasis chambers are designed to revive them automatically if it fails. so the crew can make repairs. But with no atmosphere in the ship they would had died a horrible death."
*Pause*
"With some luck I can save both of them and we can learn a lot from them personally. I will work on the strongest one first due that one having the best chance to survive. If I am successful they can then help to bring the other one out of cyro-stasis."
She then turned to Somers and spoke.
"Also Captain perhaps we can use a tractor Beam to tow the ship back to the new Space Station. A find like this would be a great discovery by Starfleet for studies as well. If we cannot tow it then arrange for another ship to do so. Then we can properly bury the casualties."
Looking at Cahill “good idea, we think alike Doctor, we will do something about it the moment we get back to the ship” Jasmine said.
- USS Tomcat - Bridge -
Maia watched the other ship on the view screen from the bridge of the Tomcat. Their initial scans showed some minor structural damage to the ventral plating on the saucer section and some buckling of the warp nacelles. The computers and life support still seemed active, and there were life signs aboard however they were unusually weak. The warp core was offline as were the fusion generators as if they had been drained. The ship was functioning on auxiliary power, however the antimatter pods were empty and the deuterium fuel was nearly exhausted. The ship itself wasn't in bad shape, just somehow drained.
Maia would have loved to get a look at the warp five engines. She had seen one at the Federation museum on Daleb II when she was in high school, but that was hardly a working model. Sensors also revealed that the ship had a standard compliment of phase cannons and photonic torpedoes for a pre Federation NX class Starship. The ship had no shields or tractor beams, it really was an amazing find no matter what universe it may be from.
Tapping her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Sterling =/\=
=/\=Go ahead Captain=/\= Sterling responded.
=/\= We have found two cry stasis tubes still functional, have engineering beam to our location some power batteries and then when they are connected up prepare to beam them and Doctor Cahill directly to sick bay =/\=
=/\= Aye Captain! Also initial scans a show that other than some minor buckling on the dorsal hull plating and warp nacelles the ship is more or less intact, but that the anti-matter pods and deuterium fuel supply is exhausted. We can easily get that ship back up and running from our own stores =/\= Maia advised.
=/\= Thank you Commander, Somers out =/\= when she closed the link she tapped her Commbadge again =/\= Somers to Sheela=/\=
- USS Tomcat –
Maia switched the Comms to Engineering.
=/\=Sterling to engineering I need a damage control team with power batteries to energize a pair of cry stasis tubes for an away mission, report to transporter room 2 for beam over.=/\=
Maia switched the COMM over to Sickbay.
=/\=Sickbay prepare to receive two casualties from a cry stasis tube to beam directly to Sickbay=/\=
Maia wondered if Lt Sheela had been able to tap into the main computer yet to find out who and where these people came from...
- ESS Nimitz -
=/\= Thank you Commander, Somers out =/\= when she closed the link she tapped her Commbadge again =/\= Somers to Sheela =/\=
=/\= Squeak =/\= Sheela responded, looking over the darken panels and screens of the main accessing computer to the Mainframe of the ship's Computer Core. She found the button to the turn the system on. She wiggled a bit and jabbed the [power] on button.
About a third of the lights began to flash red and soft sounds of clicking of relays came to life. the main screen lit up with 'Micro-Siemens' with an intertwined logo of both corporations and a status bar that was red with black numbers that rapidly climbed from 0% to 45% then paused for several minutes. as lights on the panel began shifting from red to yellow to green. The status bar resumed it climb up the numbers at a much slower rate.
=/\= SITREP Lieutenant, you been able to download anything from the ships computer? =/\=
=/\= Iz need a booster power packs. It looks like what power that is available won’t be enough to jumpstart the CC Mainframe.=/\= Sheela squeak/growled back over the commlink.
=/\= Acknowledged Lieutenant, finish what you are doing and meet us back at Cargo Bay Four we have found our quarry =/\= Jasmine finished.
Sheela just placed her forehead in the palm of her hand =/\= this is gonna take longer than expected. Iz need additional power to make the CC Mainframe to become operational beyond just maintenance of maintaining it's programming and data. =/\= She could work miracles, but without the necessary power to bring the CC up to speed. Nothing would work without killing the rest of power cells that just kept the Computer Core Mainframe from becoming nothing but junk.
She leaned back in her seat and looked thoughtful at the now brightly lit screen that lit up the control room with its glow. Then she noticed a flashing light. She looked at it and read the tag; [Emergency Download]. This ship was already a derelict, what else could go wrong.
She removed the cover and jabbed the button. There was a loud pop as the screen and console went dark and a panel popped open. Momentary blinded by the loss of extra lighting. Sheela at first missed the open panel till she banged her shin against it.
She paused to let her eyes adjust to the new lower ambient light from her headlamps on the her suit. She kneeled before the open panel and looked inside. There was a black box about the size of a desktop tower with handles on it. She grabbed the handles and pulled out the blackbox.
"Oh squeakies!" Sheela just smiled, standing up as she picked up the black box. It was heavy, but she was able to carry it with a two hand grip. One on each handle. She made her way slowly to cargo bay four.
=/\= Confirmed, Somers out =/\= with that she closed the line and turned back to the Doctor. “Well Doctor I have some portable power packs being beamed over, as soon as they are installed the Tomcat will beam you and your charges back to the ship. I want to be notified the moment you have one or both awake, you are not to answer any questions other than to respond to their questions on their health understood?” Jasmine asked.
We had worked hard getting everything ready once we were convinced the chamber were ready, Dr Cahill nodded to the Captain. hey were beamed out.
“Good” Jasmine said as two power packs materialized by them and Donovan began to attach them to the two surviving pods. “If we can safely wake them they are going to be disorientated” She commented as Sheela just returned and Jasmine looked back. “You got the data and such Lieutenant?” She asked.
Sheela just sat the heavy black box on the floor. "Squeee.. Right here." She rubbed her back. "Iz gonna need some help getting this back to Tomcat."
