Amsterdam

On Sunday, August 4th, The class traveled to The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. I've spent a total of 17 days over the last 3 years in Amsterdam and it is most definitley one of my favorite cities in the world. Needless to say, the class visit to Amsterdam was one of my favorite days of the trip. Although I had already been to almost all of the places on the bike tour, it was still a great learning experience to hear about the history and future of Amsterdam from our fantastic tour guide, Marjolein de Lange. Marjolein's book Bike City Amsterdam dives deep into the urban planning of Amsterdams Bicycle facilities. Due to the pride festivities and general crowdedness fo the city due to the season, our bike tour took us around the outside ring of the city. One of my favorite places to bike in Amsterdam in Vondelpark, where you can casually cruise on the smooth bike path and watch locals and tourists alike enjoying the day in the wonderful urban greenspace. After the tour, I took a some of my classmates to a few of my favorite places in Amsterdam, including one of the last windmills in Amsterdam, which now houses the brewery Brouwerij IJ.
