According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental and behavioral disorders account for about 14% of the global burden of disease and as many as 450 million people suffer from these illnesses. In the early part of 2020 surveys have shown that at least 3.6 million Filipinos suffer from one kind of mental, neurological, and substance use disorder. The pandemic has further worsened the status of mental health among Filipinos.
Through the collective initiative of the College of Teaching Education-College Student Government, College of Engineering Education-College Student Government, Young Educators' Association for Science and Technology (YEAST), and UM DOST-SEI Scholars' Association (UM AGILAS), we bring you LUCELLENCE 2021: Fostering Sound Mental Health during Pandemic and Remote Learning, a month-long celebration through a series of webinars and activities that promote mental health care and awareness.

Among the emerging eminent threats to the academic community in the Philippines and around the world is the continuous and rapid decline of mental health amongst students. While this has been an issue all along, the trend seems to have worsened over the past year when the Pandemic escalated.
The College of Teaching Education and College of Engineering Education - College Student Governments, together with the Young Educators Association for Science and Technology, and UM DOST-SEI Scholars' Association proudly presents the biggest collaboration of events between college governments and student organizations for the School Year 2021-2022 entitled LUCELENCE 2021: Fostering Sound Mental Health during Pandemic and Remote Learning. Aimed at encompassing the diversity of students with different interests and ways of living, we have prepared for you a variety of events and activities!

As the CEE-CSG conducted its webinar about mental health entitled LUCELENCE 2021: Fostering Sound Mental Health during the Pandemic and Remote Learning, Yman-Reine Jupurie, a 4th year Civil Engineering student, performed her soulful and euphonious version of "Easy On Me" which received a warm virtual applause from the participants.
