Program Descriptions:

Arizona Department of Health Services

Students volunteers work with epidemiologists at the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to complete in-depth case reporting requested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to COVID-19 in the state of Arizona. The team will assist in requesting and gathering data from medical records, completing patient interviews, and completing case investigation paperwork to be submitted to the CDC. In order to participate in this project, students are required to complete a training and sign a confidentiality agreement provided by the ADHS. Additionally, students will be able to participate in future projects that become available with the ADHS.

Time Commitment:

  • Training: 1 hour

  • Must complete minimum of 1 case (1.5-2 hours/case)

*UA Medical Students only (Phoenix or Tucson)

SAFER Program at UA Tucson

Student Aid for Field Epidemiology Response (SAFER) is currently conducting patient interviews for those who have COVID-19 in Pima County. Student volunteers call patients to interview them about their experiences and also try to recruit them into a long-term study to determine what the health impact of COVID-19 may be over time and guide them to enroll in future immunology studies.

Time Commitment: Minimum of one 2-4 hour/shift
