Alessandro Micocci (York, United Kingdom, 23/02/1993). PhD candidate in Contemporary History at the University of Genova, waiting for the final discussion of the thesis. I hold a MA in History and Oriental Sciences from the University of Bologna, and a BA in History, Geography and International Cooperation from the Roma Tre University of Rome. I currently live in Rome.
I specialize in Cultural History, History of Totalitarian Regimes, and Heritage Studies, with a particular focus on the utilization of history and tradition by totalitarian and democratic regimes in Europe, the colonial and national heritage through the study of monuments and neighbourhoods, and memory. In my PhD research I developed comparative analysis on the utilization of historical re-enactments in Fascist and democratic Italy and Salazarist Portugal, juxtaposing national history and tradition with the local communities’ micro-resistance to propaganda. During my PhD I participated as a visiting researcher in the activities of the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) of the Universidade Nova of Lisbon. I speak English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. I worked with Trinity College Rome Campus as a University Partner in 2018/2019.
