DEPARTURE FOR ROME

During check-in at your airport of departure in the United States you will be required to provide the following documents before boarding:

Valid passport

IMPORTANT: please contact your specific airline to confirm all requirements for travel to Italy.

AT THE AIRPORT

IMPORTANT: these arrival instructions are valid for students arriving on the designated arrival day of September 2nd at Fiumicino Airport. If you are arriving in Rome earlier or by a different hub and would like assistance getting from the airport to the city center or campus, please write the Rome Campus staff to let them know: flavia.alfano@trincoll.edu

For all students arriving on September 2nd, once you have landed at the Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino (FCO), you will go through passport control if coming directly from the United States. FCO has recently implemented an EES protocol (Entry and Exit System) whereby they take the biometrics of entering international visitors. Students who arrive via other European Union airports will go through immigration at their first stop before taking the connection to Rome.

After landing at Fiumicino airport in Rome, be aware that two representatives of Trinity College Rome Campus holding TCRC signs can be found inside the arrivals sector of Terminal 3, T3. If you land in Terminal 3, you will easily spot them as you leave baggage claim. If you are landing in a different Terminal, please walk to T3, this is easy to reach by foot from T2 and T1. Once you have met them they will accompany you to the bus or car that will take you to school.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE TO CAMPUS

You will be welcomed by the Rome staff and given a welcome packet. Our staff will help you find your room and provided with something to eat and drink.

You have the day free to settle in but will be expected to be present at a mandatory orientation meeting in the evening, which will be followed by a group dinner.

ORIENTATION

During the first week of the program, the program director and other program staff will provide you with a comprehensive on-site orientation that will give you information on your program location, culture, academics, internships and health and safety. Through group outings and discussions, students are introduced to the host country and provided with tools for a safe and successful semester. Orientation is also a time to review program objectives and develop relationships within the student group. Please note: all orientation activities are mandatory for all students. FAQs

Can I arrive before the official semester start date?

Students may not move into their housing before the official program start date. If you plan to arrive in Rome early, you will need to arrange your own accommodations until move-in day.

In some cases, it may be possible to store your luggage on campus a few days before the program begins. Please contact the Student Affairs team in advance to check availability and make arrangements (alice.mangia@trincoll.edu and flavia.alfano@tricoll.edu).

Do I need to bring bed sheets and towels?

No, bed linens, sheets and towels are provided in your room upon arrival.

You may wish to bring your own towels if you prefer, although many students find it convenient to purchase additional towels or other personal items after arriving in Rome.

What is the weather like in Rome?

Rome has a Mediterranean climate. Fall semesters are usually warm in September and October, becoming cooler in November and December. Spring semesters begin cool and gradually become warm and sunny. Keep in mind that air conditioning is not widely used in Italy and Europe in general.

Are academic trips and class attendance mandatory?

Yes. Missing classes or trips without a valid reason may affect your grade or academic standing.

Can I drink tap water?

Yes. Tap water in Rome is safe to drink. You'll also find public drinking fountains ("nasoni") throughout the city where you can refill your water bottle.

How much cash in euros should I take with me?

You might want to have some cash on hand upon arrival, even though most shops and establishments accept cards. The best option is to withdraw money from your own bank account via an ATM, as needed.

Can I stay and travel after the semester ends?

US citizens can stay after the semester ends but because of the Entry & Exit System in Europe, you should carry a letter that we will give you at the end of the semester that states that you studied with our program on a student visa and have 90 days to stay in the Schengen area as a “visitor after the expiration date of your student visa.

International students will need to check with the Italian immigration rules for their home country. The Rome staff can assist student with this.
