Trimble Tomcats

2010-2019

A Decade of Dominance

There are many programs in high school football that if a person would offer them a seven win season they would jump at the opportunity to secure that many wins in a season.  For the decade of 2010-2020 seven wins would be the fewest number of wins the Tomcats would have in a year.  Recording an astonishing 102 wins in a ten year span while only recording a mere 24 defeats is a feat that only the elite high school programs in Ohio can compare.  The Tomcats went to the post season every year of the decade.  Starting in 2012 they began a decade-long first round playoff winning streak.  The seniors on the 2015 team had already played in 41 games, before their senior season began.  The accomplishments were numerous and the exposure to the rest of the state immeasurable.

The rise of the Trimble program can be simply described by understanding the two loses of the 2012 season.  In week 2 the ‘Cats lost to Wahama by 13 points.  Wahama would finish the year 14-0 and State Champions of West Virginia.  The other loss was the second round of the playoffs to Newark Catholic by 7 points.  The Green Wave would lose the OHSAA State Championship by one score. These close defeats were to two elite programs in Ohio and West Virginia.  In other words to beat Trimble a team had to be among the top two programs in the state.  With a strong nucleus back for the 2013 season, the Tomcats were in a position to make waves across the state.

Mohawks, shutouts, unbelievable offensive production, a 28 game regular season win streak, three regional championships. The decade of 2010-2020 took the Trimble football program to unprecedented heights.  The Tomcats cemented themselves as the small school to beat in Southeastern Ohio, and most importantly maintained that level of success through the decade.  The 2013 team was the first to win the regional championship and make it to the State Championship. 2014 once again was a regional champion, despite graduation losses in key positions.  2015-2017 all made the playoffs and won a first round playoff game with the 2017 team being the first team to win a road playoff game.  2018 once again saw the Tomcats win the region and finish state runners up.  2019 was arguably the most dominant defensive year in Trimble history by giving up only 6 points in the regular season. The 2019 team being aligned in Division 6 instead of Division 7 meant a second round playoff match-up with eventual state runner up Springfield.  In six of the 10 seasons, Trimble’s loss in the playoffs was either to the state champion, or the state runner-up team.
