Preservation Assessment of Kent State Special Collections and Archives
Class: LIS 60654 – Preservation and Conservation
Annotation:
This preservation assessment evaluates environmental conditions, storage practices, space usage, and long term stewardship concerns within Kent State’s Special Collections and Archives. It includes observations about environmental monitoring, housing materials, workflow processes, and disaster planning, along with recommendations grounded in preservation standards. Special attention was given to sustainability and institutional responsibility because preservation choices influence access and cultural memory.
I found that performing this assessment helped me understand the broader social function of preservation work. I wanted to show that I can identify preservation risks, propose realistic solutions, and consider how institutional decisions impact long term access.
