A Holistic View of Migrant Children and The Challenges They Face In Information Environments
Class: LIS 60030 – People in the Information Ecology
Annotation:
This paper analyzes the information experiences of migrant children through theoretical frameworks such as sense making, symbolic annihilation, and informed social inclusion. It discusses the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic pressures that shape how migrant children seek and use information. Special attention was given to inequality and representation because these barriers directly affect how migrant children navigate new environments. The paper also examines how libraries function as arrival infrastructures and how professionals can design services that support belonging and access.
I found that writing this paper helped me understand how social and cultural systems influence information behavior. I wanted to show that I can analyze the needs of vulnerable user groups and recommend inclusive practices that reflect the realities they face.
